iPad’s Emerging Role in European Health Care

Patients in Europe are growing more accustomed to seeing a new instrument in their doctors’ treatment arsenals.

According to a recent study by Manhattan Research, more than one in four European doctors are using iPads for professional purposes.

The “Taking the Pulse Europe” survey queried more than 1,200 physicians in Germany, France, Spain, Italy and the UK, and found that iPad-owning physicians spend 27 percent of their professional online time on the device.

Some of the more common uses:

  • Looking up information
  • Watching videos
  • Article browsing
  • Patient education
  • Patient records management

A number of pharmaceutical and other medical companies have released apps designed specifically for health care professionals.
