Election Day

The Nation Comes Together to Decide the Future Leadership of the United States

Today is the day that millions of Americans will take some time out of their days to willingly wait in long lines only to shuffle one by one behind a curtain, fill out a card and cast their vote. November 6, 2012 brings the nation together once more as we tally votes to determine who will be the next President of the United States.

It is a momentous day, as it is every four years, and brings with it great potential for our nation and future. While both candidates hold strong to their integrity and devotion to the people of our nation, they both have very different ways in which they plan to go about it.

One of the heated debates in this year’s election is that of healthcare. More specifically, The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) also know as, “Obamacare.” Signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010, the federal statute represents the most significant overhaul of the U.S. healthcare system in many years. The law aims to provide increased healthcare coverage to various groups of United States citizens. Funding will come from a variety of taxes and spending offsets. It is a law praised by many in the United States and frowned-down upon by countless others. The issue is as contested as red vs. blue.

For medical patients, elderly and low income individuals and families the election could mean the difference between affordable treatment options and harsh realities. For other Americans, insurance companies and doctors, the bill could mean more taxes and more out-of-pocket. Tonight, as America watches the votes coming in, this topic remains on many people’s minds.
