Hike Your Way to the Top

Fitness has always played a huge role in my life, and with the holidays quickly approaching, what better gift to share with my friends and family than a healthy mind, body, and spirit?

From reversing the effects of stress to building self- esteem, exercise has a type of euphoric effect, leaving our bodies with mind-blowing benefits.

Living in Arizona, I have always loved to explore different ways to keep my mind and body healthy. My goal for 2012 was to stick to high calorie burning workouts outside my normal gym. Utilizing our gorgeous mountains, I turned to hiking. Research from the Mayo Clinic shows that hiking can burn up to 500 calories per hour, leaving you wanting to go back the very next day and do it again. At one point, I was actually hiking twice a day.  My fascination with the sunrise and sunset didn’t even make me feel like I was exercising, I simply felt like it was something that just felt great. The effects of hiking have been tremendous; I have been in an overall better mood all year long and have truly felt like I was at peace with nature.

Employees at Angel MedFlight Worldwide Air Ambulance are encouraged to live healthy, fit lifestyles. Health experts on staff agree that hiking is a rewarding form of exercise for all ages and promotes wellness, cardiovascular health, and stress relief. Hiking is a wonderful activity that is easy to both start and maintain for any level of fitness. The weather in Arizona is perfect this time of year, so instead of waiting for a fresh start in 2013, get your hiking boots on and get ahead on your fitness goals.
