“Every air ambulance flight that I work on has an impact on me, however there have been a couple flights in particular that have really left a long-lasting impression. One was for a three year old little boy who needed a liver transplant. The grandmother of the little boy called Angel MedFlight in the middle of the night letting me know that a liver had become available for her grandson and that they had only a small window of time to get to the hospital in another state. The family could not afford to do the flight out of pocket and although we had been working with Medicaid in an effort to work out a one-time agreement to cover the cost of the flight, nothing had been resolved at that point and our jets were already in the process of transferring other patients. The grandmother was in tears – her families situation was urgent.
After speaking with my supervisor about this case, it was decided that we would outsource the flight at Angel MedFlight’s expense to get this little boy to the necessary medical facility to have his liver transplant. He arrived there in time, and everything was a match. The transplant went smoothly and Angel MedFlight is partially responsible for saving this little boy’s life. When the grandmother was followed up with, she was crying, but this time with tears of joy because of what our company had done for her grandson.
I think about this case all the time and how Angel MedFlight did such an amazing thing by getting this little boy to his new liver so that he can have a chance to live a full and healthy life. What an honor it is that I got to be a part of it.”
Angel MedFlight is proud to employ people with a passion for what they do and the care they provide, both on the ground and in the sky.
