Birthday Wishes and Wisdom with Canine Information Officer, Sampson Freer

Sampson Freer celebrates his 8th birthday on December 5.

Sampson Freer celebrates his 8th birthday on December 5.

Today, Angel MedFlight staff at Corporate Headquarters in Scottsdale, Ariz., celebrated Sampson Freer’s 8th birthday. We sat down with Sam over a piece of canine-friendly birthday cake to learn a little bit more about his favorite memories, and his goals for the future.

So Sam, what’s your favorite memory from youth?

My favorite memory from my days as a pup was learning to hunt and catch. I can eye a squeaky toy from 100 ft and pull out the squeaker in two minutes flat. It’s still an adrenaline rush for me. Now, if I could just catch one of those sneaky Arizona lizards!

As you are one year older, what’s on your bucket list for 2014?

I love traveling anywhere I can with my Dad, Jeremy. We routinely travel together for business and pleasure as we leave the headquarters in Scottsdale, Ariz., to check on some of our other operations.  My favorite destinations are Corvallis, Oregon and Fredericktown, Ohio. Dad is the CEO – so he’s making sure everything is running as it should, while as the Canine Information Officer, I’m on the floor meeting and greeting and basically, conducting employee relations.

My goal for 2014 is to continue to build communication with all of the different breeds in the office. I worked really hard and put in long hours to become the Canine Information Officer and these other pups need to learn they have really big paws to grow into.

What is your favorite way to celebrate your birthday?

It brings joy to my heart to spend the day with my friends in the office. I was greeted with a surprise party today! How lucky can a Lab get? Squeaky toys, bones, piñatas, and cupcakes for my friends! Life is good!

What’s your favorite thing about working at Angel MedFlight?

I really love managing by trotting around… engaging people at lunch and taking the time to lift the spirits of everyone I meet. One of my favorite things is encouraging people to come outside and just play for a minute… smell the air, take a short walk or greet the FedEx truck. Oh, and snacking. I love sharing snacks.

You must be really grateful to the Desert Labrador Rescue, who helped you find your human Dad…where can people go to donate?

I was very pleased to see that a box labeled ‘Desert Labrador Retriever Rescue’ was filled with generous donations from my friends at Angel MedFlight in honor of my birthday.  Being a rescue myself, I have seen the benefits of their work. Make sure to visit http://www.dlrrphoenix.org/ to learn more about them. My image is being used on the Desert Lab Cellars’ Happy Hound Chardonnay; make sure to grab a bottle!

Sam, it’s always a pleasure! Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to have a chat with us. Oh, and again, Happy Birthday!
